- A Summer Hailstorm Becomes Peach Ice CreamWhile Bernard and Toby Fry played Crow on the Frys' porch, a sudden summer hailstorm left a thick covering of quarter-inch hailstones. Mrs. Fry had them gather the hail and used it with rock salt to freeze cream, sugar, and peach slices in nested cans. Singing and laughing, she joined the children in rolling the can across the kitchen floor. They then ate all the ice cream on the porch.
