A First Layout and a Warm Welcome at FCBAfter deciding he had had enough art school, Bernard crossed the street to Foote Cone and Belding and was hired despite his slight portfolio and lack of advertising knowledge. Six months later, he won approval from a difficult Armour Chemicals client on his first assignment. He recalls five happy years in the Chicago office, an award in his first year, and pioneering television work with an animated Dial commercial called “Mr. Oops.”
