told by The family
The passage describes a childhood game of stabbing a pocketknife between outstretched fingers, moving forward and back as quickly as possible without pausing or cutting oneself. It ends with the exclamation “Yikes!”
In the family's own words
Place your hand on the table or the ground. Stab your pocketknife between your outstretched fingers as fast as you can without cutting yourself. Go forward, then back. Do not pause between stabs or when you reverse direction. Yikes!
