Hard Work.
There is a spirit that binds us. It is ours alone. It is powerful. And we know it is real. A spirit this resonant must have had a rich origin. Some would say it’s only natural, just the shared blood coursing through our veins—a chauvinistic kind of thing. Sort of a “We’re Guilds, we’re a force” thing. Or did it evolve simply because there were so many of us living elbow to elbow in that tiny little house? Maybe it’s merely a feeling stemming from the individual relationships the seven of us have with one another that we’ve now come to sense as our cosmic whole. All possibilities. But I now know, as you soon will, that the miraculous force that welds us so seamlessly together is stronger than any of these, and the book you hold in your hands holds the secret of that strong force. So, as you begin this magical odyssey, lean near as each precious brother and each precious sister becomes the storyteller and you, too, will discover something really quite brilliant hidden between the lines in the pages of the seven wonderful tales told here. For at the wellspring of every single one of our stories is a common hidden story with a simple truth that rises up as clearly as a bright summer Moline morning. Listen with your heart and hear the truth, and when you do you will know in the most vivid terms why it is that we all love each other the way we do.
