- A Child's View of War News and Gifts from Uncle LloydBernard recalls not understanding the stakes of war while playing with metal military toys and imitating racist wartime caricatures. He secretly read Iris' censored letters from servicemen and listened to Gabriel Heater's radio reports with his worried family. Uncle Lloyd served in New Guinea and returned wounded with souvenirs for him; an unnamed sailor boyfriend of Iris also gave him cherished sailor's pants.
- A First Taste of Europe with BobFCB sent Bernard on his first European trip to create a Renauld of France sunglasses campaign in Paris and a Beauty on the Beach suntan lotion ad in Cannes. Traveling with account executive Bob Leefeldt, he discovered fine restaurants, antique shops, and Versailles. Bob’s example of the good life encouraged Bernard to work harder.
- Cards, Christmas Ornaments, and a Long-Awaited European JourneyWidowed Ethel maintained a full life of handcrafts, Christmas ornament making, evening cards and helping family members after divorces. She visited Diana in Florida annually. In 1979 Bernie fulfilled her dream of Europe with a visit to Carol, Charlie and Chris in Mainz and a family trip to Denmark. Ethel died during her 1988 Florida visit and was buried beside Floyd, with an incorrect birth year on her headstone that had never troubled her.
