Remembering Life and Travels with Larry

Rick and I lived together for about sixteen years before we decided to go our own ways. Later, in 1988, I met Larry Savitz, a nice Jewish boy, while on a cruise with Rick in the Caribbean. Larry lived in Miami at the time. Larry was a graduate of Penn State in Hotel Management and ran a large restaurant in a luxury retirement home in San Francisco. He sang at a professional level and had zillions of friends, including a host of deaf friends, which is why he and I learned sign language. Larry lived with me only a short time, but it was a wild and crazy period of my mid-life. We did a lot of night clubbing and disco dancing and had big parties and went on many cruises. My best-remembered times with Larry were our trips to Aculpolco, where Larry’s Uncle Irv, who once owned much of the property the Atlantic City casinos are built on, had a Hindenberg-sized condo with a beach view and a year-round staff of servants. We got to use it whenever Uncle Irv wasn’t there. Very wonderful. Larry lived with me until 1982 when he returned to his family home in Philadelphia. I’m so sorry to say Larry died there of AIDS in 1993. Everyone should have at least one Larry in their life.
