A Short Florida Stay and a Return to Moline

If I could save time in a bottle, it would be the time we were living in Germany. Without a doubt, it was the happiest time of my life. We lived in a small town nestled in the Rhine River Valley called Ingelheim, near Mainz, Germany. I worked as a secretary for the commander of a Nike Hercules Missile Battalion, which was right next door to the 28th Ordnance Company where Charlie worked. Chris attended Mainz American Community School, learned German, played soccer and football and also learned to ski. Just a few fun times I remember during out years in Germany: Skiing in Garmisch. Visiting King Ludwig’s castles. Attending the Fasching (Pre- Easter celebration) Parade in Mainz. Many, many Wine Fests. The Farmer’s Markets every weekend. Vacations to Denmark, Austria, Holland, Luxenbourg and Switzerland. Visits and touring with Mom and Bernie. After we left Germany in July of 1978, we were assigned to the 31st ADA Brigade at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida where we both worked. But it was to be a short stay. We returned to Moline in September of 1979 and both resumed our careers at the Rock Island Arsenal.
