Bob's Chapter
Cocoa-Dunked Sandwiches and Saturday Candy
told by Robert Ray Guild
Bob lists favorite foods from childhood, tentatively recalling milk at ages 0–5, daily peanut butter sandwiches dunked in cocoa at ages 5–10, and macaroni and cheese with double cheese at ages 10–15. Weekly Saturday A&P grocery trips included one bag of candy to share; his favorites were Orange Slices and Circus Peanuts. He also remembers the PX restaurant's chili and French fries as the world's best and refers readers to Chris Bonney’s Ethel Guild family cookbook.
In the family's own words
These are some of my favorite foods throughout the years. Ages 0 - 5: Can’t remember—probably milk. Ages 5 - 10: Peanut butter sandwiches dunked in cocoa—everyday! We always got one bag of candy to share during the weekly, Saturday, A&P grocery trip. Orange Slices and Circus Peanuts were my favorites. Ages 10 -15: Macaroni and cheese with double cheese on top. Eating at the PX restaurant—world’s best chili and French fries. See Chris Bonney’s Ethel Guild family cookbook for more.
