Friday-Night Games with a Dear Friend

Carol recalls doing almost everything with Lila Lambert (now Becker) from grade school through high school, including attending the same church and its Luther League youth program. Their friendship continued into the time of writing. They attended Friday-night football and basketball games to support the Moline Maroons, whose rivals included East Moline and Rock Island. Home games took place at Browning Field and Wharton Field House. Carol humorously describes basketball's popularity by saying someone had to die before a reserved seat became available.

My good friend Lila Lambert (now Becker) and I did almost everything together from grade school through high school. We attended the same church and belonged to Luther League, the youth program at church. We are still dear friends today. We attended all the high school football and basketball games on Friday night together. Our team was called the Moline Maroons. There was a fierce rivalry between Moline, East Moline, and Rock Island. Our home football games were at Browning Field and our home basketball games were at Wharton Field House. Wharton Field House had a very large seating capacity, but basketball was so popular someone had to die in order to buy a reserved seat.
