Mom’s Patient Listening and Labors of Love

I’d call Mom and be complaining about something or someone and her reply, after listening patiently, would always be, “I don’t know what to say about that.” She never took sides, never talked behind anyone’s back, and never told secrets. Quite a lady, that one! She could bake anything and was just very good with anything made from yeast. That’s a talent in itself. Mom taught me how to crochet as well as cook and make my own clothes. I’ll always remember her late at night in the kitchen with that old treadle sewing machine finishing up something one of us just had to have the next day. A labor of love.
