A Christmas Visit Captured in Family Portraits

The pictures in this folio forever capture each member of our family on a wonderful day together in time. I was the photographer, so although my picture wasn’t taken that day in a very personal way I am recorded, too. It all started when I borrowed a Leica camera from a professional photographer to take some pictures of my new place in San Francisco. It had this fantastic German lens that took really clear, razor-sharp pictures. On a whim, I brought it home to Moline with me at Christmas. In a fit of art direction, I suppose, I tacked up a piece of funky orange and green fabric in the girls’ bedroom, posed everyone against it, and snapped their picture. I’ve included a picture of myself taken by Jerry Edlund, a high school chum, from that same trip home to complete the family photo folio. Study these images. I think you’ll agree that a great deal, if not all, of everyone’s personality is pretty clearly revealed. Later that day we celebrated Carol’s 23rd birthday. And hey, kids, I think we all never looked better. —Bernie
